Pearls: cranes that stung the ducks

I will open a new section on the blog to be called Pearls. It will be putting phrases or outlandish ideas that our public figures are saying for the territory or "qualified" written technical reports.

The first delivery I have found reviewing the historical archives of the Department of Conservation SEO / BirdLife, the minutes of the Committee on the Environment of the Aragon on 24 February 1999. At that meeting, Mr. Minister of Agriculture and the Environment, D. Dolhagaray Lasa said:

"[...] at times what society has to have is the balance between what information a scientist who knows about birds [he is referring to SEO / BirdLife] but not people and certainly not monegrinos, and sometimes I will have an anecdote, not birds, because it makes a days at a meeting held with mayors of Gallocanta one of the drawbacks is that the study carried out technicians and scientists [back to refer to SEO / BirdLife] is that declining populations of some species and, in particular therefore reduce the populations of ducks. And then, these scientists put it as an entirely disturbing, and the meeting with the mayors there, who have been there for a lifetime, they say, hell, of course, how will not diminish, as there are more cranes, Cranes throw to the ducks, and as there are more cranes which had been in many years there are memos ducks, but because biting cranes. And that they knew the inhabitants of the territory, how strange, the technicians who had written the document, no, those did not. "

amazing thing the story is not that the mayors have reached a curious conclusion, but a whole Minister of Environment is able to believe it. But everything is learned, scientists must not only learn, they must also convince, and it is clear that the theory of cranes killer is much more credible than that of water mismanagement.
